Steady Gains Expected for Japan's Semi, Panel Equipment Sales Between 2006, 2008

On January 16 Japan's SEAJ announced sales forecasts of Japanese semiconductor equipment and panel equipment between 2005 and 2008. For semiconductor equipment, sales are expected to hit 1.5 trillion yen in 2005, down 7.9% annually; 1.6 trillion yen in 2006, 8% higher than the previous year; 1.8 trillion yen in 2007, up 11.4% annually. Sales in 2008 are projected to set a new record with 10.1% annual growth, to 2.0 trillion yen. Sales of panel equipment for the year of 2005 are expected to reach 104.2 billion yen, around the same level of 2004. In 2006 sales of LCD TV and notebook PCs are likely to push the number to 130.3 billion yen. 2007 is expected to see sales hit new high, with a forecast of 136.8 billion yen. In 2008 a slight increase of 5% is anticipated, boosting sales to 143.6 billion yen.
